The following information applies to students enrolling in Vocational Education (VET) Courses with AIM.

To ensure that prospective students are academically suited to completing a Diploma or Advanced Diploma through  AIM, applicants will be required to satisfy AIM’s entrance criteria. Please note that a student's enrolment with AIM is provisional until the entry criteria have been met. Students that meet the criteria will have their enrolment status with AIM confirmed. Students who do not meet the criteria will have their enrolment cancelled. The minimum age for students enrolling in vocational courses by AIM is 18 years at the time of enrolment.

Full Fee Paying Students

Fee for service (FFS) students who are enrolling in a VET qualification with AIM will undergo a suitability check as part of AIM’s enrolment process. This suitability check is to determine that each student has sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to enable him or her to successfully complete their course. If AIM has concerns about a student's academic ability we will request that the student provide AIM with a copy of their Senior Secondary School Certificate (at the completion of Year 12) or that they complete a Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA) in numeracy and reading. 

Technology Requirements

For your course you will need access to a computer satisfying the following minimum systems requirements:

  • Operating system: Windows, Mac OS X, Linux Software: Adobe Acrobat Reader (latest versions available for free download at Adobe website)

  • Internet: Supported browsers include Firefox 3+, Google Chrome 4+, Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and 8, Opera 9+, Safari 3+ (download latest browser software for free online). You will need a reliable internet connection, preferably Broadband (64 Kbit/sec or faster)

  • Access to a printer and digital camera/recording device may be required.

Student Entry Procedure

The submission of an application form is required for any student wanting to complete an AIMET qualification.

The minimum age for students enrolling in vocational courses by AIM is 18 years at the time of enrolment.

It is a requirement to meet the entry requirements for the qualification you wish to enrol into. These entry requirements will be outlined to you at the time of application.

To enrol in Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses with AIM, you will need the ability to read and write English to at least Year 12 level.

To show evidence of this ability, you will need to have satisfied the following:

  • Completed Australian Year 12 schooling, or
  • During the enrolment process, demonstrate that you have the skills and capability to succeed in the course by completing the Diploma Entry Test.
  • Offshore students may provide an IELTS or TOEFL certificate including statement of results in order to demonstrate the ability to read and write to a year 12 level.

Then,

  • Complete all the required fields on the online enrolment form
    • Make sure you have your Tax File Number (TFN) and Unique Student Identifier (USI) handy
    • If you don’t already have a TFN you will need to apply for one by clicking on the following link and filling in a few details:  Apply for a TFN

    • You will not be able to be issued a qualification or Statement of Attainment without a USI unless you fall into an exemption category

    • If you are exempt please contact AIMET directly
  • You will receive an email from AIM with a formatted copy of your enrolment form attached.
    • Please check that all fields are correct
    • Complete the e-signature section and submit
  • The minimum entry requirement for Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses is completion of Australian Year 12, or satisfactory completion of a Diploma Entry Test.
    • If you have completed Year 12 please provide a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education to our Student Support team. It’s important to note, a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education must clearly show the issuing authority (the peak education body in your state or territory) and date of issue.
    • If you have not completed year 12 or are not able to provide a copy of your Australian Year 12 certificate you will need to undertake the Diploma Entry Test.
    • The Diploma Entry Test forms part of the entry requirements for courses of study.
    • The test is an online test involving a series of questions designed to assess a learner’s numeracy and literacy proficiency and should be undertaken with honesty and integrity.
    • Should you not pass the test on your first attempt you may be offered a second attempt.
    • Your results will be provided to you automatically after submitting the language, literacy and numeracy assessment online.
    • Your results will be reported to the Secretary (Dept. of Education and Training) in the form, manner and by the time requested by the Secretary.
    • Your test results will be retained by AIM for 5 years.

Undertaking the CSPA

  • When completing AIM’s enrolment form student’s will be prompted to confirm that they wish to meet the entry criteria by undertaking  Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA) assessment

  • Students will be emailed login and URL details to undertake the test

  • Once the test is completed students will be notified of their results

  • Students will need to display competence at or above Exit Level 3 in both numeracy and reading to meet the entry criteria
